Development Resumes & 0.1.0 Unstable
After less than 2 weeks of almost no internet, my ISP somehow managed to fix whatever problem they had and I now have a mostly stable internet connection, thus I can finally resume full-time development of Star Cleaner. I've also uploaded and unstable version of update 0.1.0, as I haven't uploaded a new build in a while. I've listed some additions and changes below:
- Ships no longer have their own max speeds, acceleration, deceleration, etc. All that is handled by an engine component, which will soon be configurable for the player.
- Players can now enable their vessel's weapons system and fight using a randomized ranged weapon.
- Pressing Z will now make the ship switch between cleaning mode and blade mode. Blade mode is used to stab enemies (or allies).
- Medium-Grade ships no longer spawn. This is a side effect from me experimenting with the way battle scenes are created, in order to make them a bit more "modular".
- Solar systems are now broken. This is also a side effect from me experimenting with a "save state" system. It turns out I don't need one, though, as I can just recreate the solar system using a set of saved properties. Saving the solar system's state would also break saves, if anything regarding the solar system's architecture were to change.
- You can no longer move backwards. Pressing the down arrow or the S key now works as a brake.
- There's a main menu, which doesn't currently work.
- Saving also doesn't work to my knowledge.
- Fixed a few issues with the combat system, still not perfect as the allies system doesn't work.
In general, few of the old systems work now, but that's the price of progress. When the 0.1.0 update is finished, everything should work perfectly. I'm quite proud of the new combat system - even if half of it doesn't work, I still see it as an achievement, especially the AI aiming system.
Finally, you can start the game by pressing the "tests" button in the main menu. As always, any suggestions and/or bug reports are appreciated.
